8/25 UPDATE: PHILLY & BOSTON SHOWS SOLD OUT!! 3 NEW DATES ADDED TO ABB'S NOVEMBER TOUR!!

The Allman Brothers Band has just confirmed that their recently announced shows in Philadelphia and Boston have SOLD OUT! Additionally, 3 dates have been added to the tour: Washington D.C. November 12; Albany, NY November 15; and Mashantucket, CT November 16. For full details see Tour Dates below.

8/9 UPDATE: GREGG RECOVERING SWIFTLY, ABB TOURING IN NOVEMBER!

The Allman Brothers Band are happy to announce their return to the concert road with select shows confirmed in November, marking Gregg Allman’s first live performances since his successful liver transplant surgery in June. The ABB will play an East Coast intimate theatre tour of “Evening With” shows including three nights at Boston’s prestigious Orpheum Theatre November 18, 19 and 20 with stops at the Tower Theater in Philadephia November 11 and Etess Arena at Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City November 13.

The group was forced to cancel a June 26 appearance at Eric Clapton’s “Crossroads” festival, as a liver became available for Allman, who has since been recovering swiftly and is excited about getting back on the road. “I’m ready,” says Gregg, who spent time in the Jacksonville area after the surgery, before returning to his Georgia home where he has been spending time with his children, family and friends. “I’ve been itching to play since I got the operation and am glad to be back. Can’t thank everyone enough for their help and support.”

For more information see Tour Schedule below.

7/6 UPDATE: GREGG OUT OF THE HOSPITAL!

Gregory was released from the hospital Friday (7/2) and is now staying nearby with friends for follow-up care. “I got up early and watched the sunrise on the beach this morning, which was amazing” he says. “I’m feeling pretty good and moving around well and we’re going to start talking soon about getting back out on the road, later this year.” Gregg continues to thank all of the hospital staff and fans for their continued support and well wishes--and will keep the updates coming.

6/28 UPDATE: GREGG DOING EVEN BETTER!

Gregg is doing great. He is up doing laps around the hospital, been outside today on their grounds and is looking forward to being discharged towards the end of this week.

6/25 UPDATE: GREGG DOING WELL

Search "Gregg Allman Liver Transplant" on Google and you will find thousands of hits already -- news media and fans all over the world have picked up this story and sent well-wishes to Gregg and we are relaying them to him -- and he really appreciates hearing from all of you.

Gregg was groggy yesterday but is alert today and is up and walking around some. His doctors think he could be well enough to be back touring by November. Great to hear he is doing well!

Gregg's doctors also said he should be up and around in time to attend his daughter Island's wedding in late July, and Gregg says it is his dream to be able to walk her down the aisle. All you Dads with daughters can definitely relate to that.

Gregg Allman Undergoes Liver Transplant

6/24: TOUR PLANS ON HOLD UNTIL ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAMER FULLY RECOVERS

DOWNLOAD THE PRESS RELEASE

As part of his continued recovery from Hepatitis C, rock and roll icon GREGG ALLMAN recently underwent a successful liver transplant operation at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. The singer, keyboardist, songwriter and guitarist had been on a waiting list for the transplant and is looking forward to a speedy recovery.

“I feel pretty good, considering everything that’s happened,” says ALLMAN, who co-founded the Allman Brothers Band in 1969. “Everybody involved here, my doctors and nurses in the hospital and all the Allman Brothers fans, they’ve just all been great.” The surgery took place this morning (June 23) after ALLMAN was notified that an appropriate liver had been donated. “All I can really say is ‘thanks,’” the singer says with gratitude.

The transplant comes as a result of the artist’s previous battle with Hepatitis C, a liver disease. In late 2007, Allman began a series of treatments for his Hepatitis C, but chronic damage of his liver led to doctors recommending a transplant. “I changed my ways years ago,” Allman says, “but we can’t turn back time. Every day is a gift, and I can’t wait to get back on the road making music with my friends.”

Updates on Gregg’s recovery will be posted regularly on www.greggallman.com and www.allmanbrothersband.com

Due to Gregg's operation, the full Allman Brothers Band will not be performing at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival June 26 at Toyota Park in Chicago, BUT WARREN AND DEREK WILL appear at the Festival.

Gov't Mule's CD "By A Thread" is the band's 8th studio album and first with bassist Jorgen Carlsson. The rock single "Broke Down On The Brazos" features Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top on guitar. "Frozen Fear," the AA single, is getting great airplay and is steadily climbing the charts. "By A Thread" is a great album by a great band. You can purchase a copy online right HERE.

2010 United Palace Shows

Now that the run is over, all we can do is look back in wonder on the fantastic shows that the Allman Brothers played at the United Palace in New York. Adding new songs to the rotation, bringing back long-lost favorites, and infusing setlist staples with newfound energy, the ABB played like they had something to prove from start to finish. All 8 shows are unique and interesting, and our friends at Hittin' The Note are currently taking pre-orders for these 3-CD sets.

For maximum musical enjoyment, we recommend the "Palace Pack," which features all 8 shows for the price of 7, plus a souvenir program from the shows.

CLICK HERE for setlists, details and to order these great shows!

Warren Haynes Christmas Jam Vol. 3

For over 20 years, Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam has been one of the premier musical events in the world. The annual event brings together an incredibly diverse lineup of top-notch musicians, with all the proceeds going to Habitat For Humanity, and every year the Xmas Jam produces more than its share of unique collaborations and red-hot jams.

Over the past few years, Warren and the good folks at Evilteen Records have started going through the Christmas Jam archives and releasing some of the shows on CD and/or DVD. We are delighted to announce that you can now order the latest installment in the series, Warren Haynes Presents The Benefit Concert Vol. 3!

Volume 3 is full of powerhouse performances from the likes of Phil and Friends, Drivin’ n’ Cryin’ and Blues Traveler, plus a great Gov’t Mule show with a rotating cast of all-star bass players. This show happened during the transition period following Allen Woody’s death, when Mule toured with several different bassists, and both Oteil Burbridge of the Allman Brothers Band and Dave Schools of Widespread Panic are featured here. Check out Oteil’s jazzy runs on “Sco-Mule,” or Schools’ massive, Woody-esque bottom end on “Blind Man In The Dark.” Smokin’!

This 2001 Xmas Jam also took place during the “Golden Age” of Phil Lesh and Friends, the widely-praised “Phil Lesh Quintet” of Lesh, Haynes, Jimmy Herring, Rob Barraco and John Molo. The “Loose Lucy>Tennessee Jed” sequence captured here is ample proof of why many people think this was the best incarnation of Phil and Friends to ever hit the stage.

That doesn’t even cover the great acoustic blues by Alvin Youngblood Hart, or Warren’s emotional guest appearance on Blues Traveler’s “The Mountains Win Again.” There is a lot to love here, from Hart’s “Mama Don’t Allow,” which opens Disc One, to the all-star free-for-all on Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World” that brings Disc Two to a rousing conclusion.

Everyone who pre-orders through HTN gets a chance to win one of three signed Xmas Jam posters! These beauties are rare enough without the signature, and we thank the folks at Evilteen Records for making them available and getting them signed by Warren. We know that our folks love these kind of special extras, and we're happy to bring you this offer. CLICK HERE for details and to order!

15-Show 2009 Beacon Theatre Run Released

15-Show 2009 Beacon Theatre Run Released!

To commemorate their 40th anniversary, The Allman Brothers Band has released a Beacon Box live CD package, capturing all 15 sold-out shows from the group’s historic March 2009 stand at the venerable Beacon Theatre in New York City. This is the first time the band has made CDs available from their annual visits to New York, which date back to 1989 and includes 188 consecutive sold-out shows at the Beacon. Individual shows are available as well and can be ordered from www.hittinthenote.com.

This run was dedicated to the memory of Duane Allman, seminal guitarist and founder of the band, and to help celebrate Duane’s legacy, 62 special guests shared the stage with the Allman Brothers Band. The list includes a “Who’s Who” of rock, jazz and jams greats, including Levon Helm, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, Boz Scaggs, Johnny Winter, Sheryl Crow, Widespread Panic’s Jimmy Herring and John Bell, Kid Rock, Billy Gibbons, Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas, Bob Margolin, Phish’s Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell, Chuck Leavell, Jimmy Hall, Susan Tedeschi, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and many others. Also appearing for two nights with the band was the inimitable Eric Clapton, who teamed with Duane Allman to record Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs in 1970, considered by many critics to be the finest guitar album of all time. This marked the first occasion that Clapton had played with the Allman Brothers Band in a public setting.

The fact that the band performed at its considerable best in its 40th year is a remarkable testament to the talents of this Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group. All the magic of their timeless classics, newer tunes and spectacular cover songs shines through on the Beacon Box live CD package. The 15 historical shows, containing 100 different songs is packaged in a custom-made, hand-crafted, serial numbered box that has the Beacon Theatre’s marquee silkscreened across the front. In addition to the Beacon concerts, this box set includes a special bonus performance of the Allman Brothers Band at Warren Haynes’ 20th Annual Christmas Jam, which occurred in December of 2008. Also included in the box set edition is a 60 page CD booklet with liner notes, set list and exclusive photos taken during the run by ABB Tour Mystic, Kirk West. Shows are available on an individual basis as well, so take advantage of this once in a lifetime offer to savor a once in a lifetime event. Please visit www.hittinthenote.com. for set list, show descriptions and ordering info.

Featuring excellent players like Jay Collins of Gregg Allman and Friends, David Stoltz, and guitar slinger and vocalist Junior Mack, this is a very talented band. Playing mainly in his home state of Connecticut, these gigs have become a special treat for New England Peach-heads. For years we have had people asking if this outstanding ensemble would ever release a CD...and now they have - two, double CDs in fact! Click here for song samples and to find out more!

GREAT NEWS! We have an answer to your question "when is the next archival release coming?" It's here now! There's a new release available featuring the original ABB lineup playing at the Boston Common August 17, 1971. Recorded just five months after the historic Fillmore East shows, this gem includes "Statesboro Blues," "Trouble No More," "Don't Keep Me Wonderin'," a 26 minute "You Don't Love Me," Berry's vocals on "Hoochie Coochie Man," "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed," and a riveting and unusual "Whipping Post" finale. You can buy it at the Beacon shows or click to order it online.

Scratchin' your head about how to brighten someone's day? Do we ever have a cure for the blues! It's a sure bet that someone you care about would like an Allman Brothers Band CD or DVD they don't have. Come see all the CDs and DVDs and more at Hittin' the Note and we are sure you will find something for all your music-loving friends!

The first ABB archive release, American University, 12/13/70, another superb early recording and ABB manager Bert Holman's first show, is back in stock! The second ABB archive release, SUNY at Stonybrook, 9/19/71, contains one of the best “Dreams” ever captured on tape and a rare “Blue Sky” with Duane! Recorded just weeks prior to Duane’s untimely passing, this one will surely make you sit up and listen to the growth of the band in its short run to that point. The third ABB archive, Macon, 2/11/72, captures the intense spirit and determination the "5-man band era" showed as they regrouped following the loss of their leader, Duane Allman. Many of your friends here at HTW heard the band during this extremely emotional era and found healing in the music, including members of the ABB themselves. A rare glimpse into that time can be found on this CD. The fourth archival release from the Allman Brothers Band features the same lineup that recorded the legendary Brothers and Sisters album, with new members Chuck Leavell and Lamar Williams. Nassau Coliseum, 5/1/73 is another proud addition to this line of great archival shows from the Allman Brothers Band. This particular incarnation was often referred to as the “best damn band in the land,” and for good reason. Such ABB gems as “Jessica,” “Come and Go Blues,” “Ramblin’ Man,” and “Wasted Words,” plus a cool “Mountain Jam” are highlights of this outstanding recording. In addition, old chestnuts are revamped to fit the current lineup – this one is a keeper for sure!

The Allman Brothers Band are "Hittin' the Note"

HTN cd coverThe Allman Brothers Band has released their first new release in nine years. Titled "Hittin' the Note" the 11 cut CD kicks off with "Firing Line," and grows through the heartache intensity of "Desdemona," the reflective delicacy of "Old Before My Time," the alternating blues feel and funky strut of the Freddy King cover "Woman Across the River," the sizzling roadhouse shuffle of "Maydell," and the breathtaking virtuosity on tracks that range from the intimate acoustic slide dialog of "Old Friend" to the trademark extended jam "Instrumental Illness," a burnin' twelve-minute marathon. There’s also an inspired blues version of the Rolling Stones’ “Heart of Stone,” which the Allman Brothers Band definitely put their stamp on.

Gregg Allman describes "Hittin' the Note" as "the best album we've made since Eat a Peach.” For Media Reviews of "Hittin' the Note" click here.

The CD was released March 18 on the band's own Peach Records in partnership with Sanctuary Records, and is available in stores everywhere and at the Beacon shows.(for more information see the press release below)

The Allman Brothers Band’s April 23 concert at the Macon City Auditorium sold out Saturday in three minutes, according to Macon Centreplex box office manager David Smith.

Tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. About 50 people lined up at the Centreplex box office Saturday morning, Smith said. Four or five of them had camped out.

Most of the tickets were sold over the phone or on the Internet.

The auditorium seats 2,550 for a concert, but only 1,600 tickets were available to the general public.

Smith said the remainder were reserved for the band and for the Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House, which opened on Vineville Avenue in December.

Allman Brothers Band Museum curator E.J. Devokaitis said the museum is working on plans for an event to coincide with the concert.

He said some of the museum’s tickets might be available to the general public after the museum takes care of its volunteers.

No rock ’n’ roll tradition lasts forever. Bob Dylan plugged in his guitar. Kiss (temporarily) washed off its face paint. And now the Allman Brothers Band is leaving the Beacon Theater.

On Tuesday night the Allman band, whose annual routine of residencies at that Upper West Side theater once seemed as permanent as the bathroom-wall graffiti at CBGB, announced that when it came to New York in March, it would not appear at the Beacon, where it has played 190 shows over the past 20 years.

Instead the band will perform at the United Palace Theater in Washington Heights, having lost its longtime Manhattan home to another group.

“Cirque du Soleil came and bought it out from under us,” Gregg Allman, the band’s singer and keyboard player, said in a telephone interview.

“It’s a drag,” Mr. Allman added. “But one monkey don’t stop no show.”

In what has become a rite of passage and annual destination for fans of the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND, the iconic and revered group will return to New York City in March 2010 for a lengthy residency beginning March 11, with eight shows confirmed (March 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20), just as they have since 1989. 2010 marks a change of venue for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame group: they’re taking their act uptown to the 3200-capacity United Palace Theatre (formerly known as the 175th Street Theatre) in lieu of the Beacon Theatre which is unable to host the ABB due to a 2010 scheduling conflict. Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday, January 15 via www.ticketmaster.com.
